Nick Olmos-Lau (54) became the 89th person to swim across the 21-mile wide Catalina Channel. His time was 12:40:17. The water temperature was in the low 60s, unpredictable winds changed the currents and roughened the water and an unexpected storm created unusually large swells and rough seas. Nick started his swim shortly after midnight, swam through the night and came ashore amidst sharp watermelon-sized rocks near the Point San Vicente lighthouse. Nick plans to swim the English Channel next August…

Myriam Pero (50) set a championship record in the 1500 meter freestyle at the Fifth Latin America and Caribbean Masters Swimming Championships in Ft. Lauderdale. She also won the 400 free, and placed second in the 800 free, third in the 200 and fourth in the 100.
