Terrapin Masters18th Annual 1000/1650 Meet

By Dave Diehl

The December 2000, version of the annual Terrapin Masters 1000/1650 Meet was again very successful. Many positive comments were shared with us about the quality of our meets and how much this meet is appreciated by the swimmers (see Terrapin Masters Survey Results elsewhere in this Newsletter). Almost three times as many people entered the 1650 compared to the 1000.

Four meets records were set or broken as follows: Roger Franks (C1776) broke the 70-74 1000 record (14:38.94) on the way to breaking the 1650 record (24:12.18). In addition John Geyer (UNAT) and Mary Lathram (DCM) set new 1650 records in the 35-39 and 85-89 age groups (17:57.43 and 45:48.29).

Again, we thank the University of Maryland Men’s and Women’s Varsity swimming teams for their help with back up timing, and cheerleading, which was most appreciated by the competitors. We also thank the University of Maryland Campus Recreation Department for allowing us to use their outstanding pool for our events.

The annual Terrapin Masters 800/1500 Meet is scheduled for July 1, 2001. Watch the Potomac Valley Newsletter (The Swimmers’ Ear) for the entry form and plan to join us for "good times".
