From the Chair…
Happy Spring to you all!
In the recent USMS National Office newsletter, there was a listing of USMS membership by LMSC, with age group distributions. As of the first week of mid-April, there were 1,396 (I'm sure we are up over 1,400 by now) swimmers registered with Potomac Valley, making our LMSC the third largest in the country. Our membership contains 604 women and 792 men. Our greatest concentration (261 swimmers) is in the 35-39 age group, followed by 30-34 (254).
Potomac Valley is looking for someone to take over as the Awards Chair. This position is responsible for determining male and female winners, based on USMS Top Ten rankings, of the PV Swimmer of the Year for each of the three "seasons." Please contact me (e-mail is best) if you are interested in finding out more about the duties.
Now to switch hats to the USMS Marketing Committee Chair. We currently are holding a poster design competition for a new USMS advertising poster. If anyone thinks that they may like the specifics in order to make a submission, let me know. By the time this issue is printed the announcement should also be on the USMS web site in the latest issue of Streamlines.
This summer the USMS Long Course National Meet will be held just up Route 95 at UMBC, hosted by our neighbor LMSC, Maryland Masters. This is a great chance for everyone to check out how much fun a big meet can be and to meet lots of great new swimming friends from around the country. I hope that many of you will take the opportunity to check it out.
